thanks dennis for a cool site

i have to admit, its been a while since i perused the gallery on a regular basis, mostly because i've spent the past three years travelling, and some of my web surfing habits have taken a back seat to other things. but thanks to a hot little number ( http://www.fixedgeargallery.com/2007/sept/1/JulieByrd.htm) i met this summer in france, i'm motivated to post _this_ hot little number - her name is scarlette...

she's an old but pretty redhead...a lugged steel mercier...she lives in southwest france, where i've worked for eight summers...i picked her and some friends up at a local used bike shop where they used to hang out a few years ago...as you can see somewhere along the line someone brazed some canti-posts on presumably to run her as a cross bike or a tourer...i went the other way, and stripped her down, cleaned her up a bit and voila...fixed

she's got a mix of random fun stuff on her - campy, dura-ace, 600, mavic, sugino, etc: up front is an old mavic rim laced, i think laced to a campy hub, out back she's got a 'new' ma-3 laced to a formula track hub i brought over from the states, with dt spokes of course...she's got a frankencrank with a sugino super maxy (i think) on the left and a dura-ace crank and chainring on the right...a dura-ace cog, and lockring, some funky single-speed chain, some faux campy pedals, and an old rebuilt dura-ace bb round out the drivetrain...i think the headset is a campy but i might be wrong...put some michelin shoes on her, with a nice blue racing stripe of course, to match the coverup retouch job done after the canti-post brazing job....she was brakeless for three years, but had those 600 brake levers mounted for riding position comfort..but this summer we took her out for some longer rides, and before heading out one weekend to ride with the tour de france i slapped the 600 front caliper on her...she and i were both happy that way so she's decided to keep the brake for a while.....

remember she may be a bit of a joker, but she really doesn't like being hit on by strange men or women...those who try to ride without an invitation tend to get rejected quickly...
